How do solar street lights work?

Solar street lights work by harnessing the energy from the sun and using it to power the lighting for streets and roads. Here’s how they work:

Solar panel: The solar panel is the component that collects energy from the sun and converts it into electrical energy through a process called photovoltaic (PV) effect. The solar panel is typically mounted on top of the street light pole.

Battery: The battery stores the energy that is generated by the solar panel and provides a source of power for the lighting when there is no sun. The battery is typically a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is designed to withstand the outdoor environment.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs): The LEDs are used as the source of light for the street light. They are highly efficient, long-lasting, and generate very little heat.

Controller: The controller regulates the flow of energy between the solar panel, battery, and LEDs. It ensures that the battery is charged during the day and that the light turns on at night. It also manages the brightness of the light and ensures that it dims or brightens based on the level of sunlight.

Pole: The pole is used to mount the solar panel, battery, and LEDs. It is typically made of steel or aluminum and is designed to withstand the elements.

When the sun sets and the light level decreases, the controller detects this and turns on the street light. When the sun rises and the light level increases, the controller turns off the street light to conserve energy. This makes solar street lights an efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective alternative to traditional street lighting.
